The CBE Dates of Significance Events Calendar

Dear Families,

A huge shout out to parents and friends of parents for working at the Casino this weekend. These efforts make such an impact on student learning. Teachers love the document cameras purchased last year, and students are excited to get another year of inline skating.  This year students will receive a drumming residency at no cost, field trip fees will be subsidized for grades 1-5 and a special in-school guest project will be funded for kindergarten. It is such a gift to have these funds over several years to support enhancements through Casino funds!

Thank you as well to the school council, SES and families who came out for the Halloween Dance. A great time was had by all!

Teacher Professional Development Friday

We were pleased to welcome guests from the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre to learn more about Co-Existing with Wildlife. This was a great connection for us as we learn on the land as part of academic and wellness programming here at Dr. Freda Miller School.  Highlights of the program were learning about the importance of living in harmony with urban wildlife and helping us learn more around the implications of human activities on the health and safety of both humans and animals.

Loose Parts and MakerSpace Items for the Den Needed

As you know our school uses a wide variety of materials for projects, activities and learning tasks. We are looking to collect some of these items to replenish our stock. We need your help to collectively build our supplies and loose parts for our Maker Workshop, the Den and classrooms.

  • Please see a suggested list below for items that will be useful for us to use at school.
  • Students and families can use the designated bins in the Sky Space inside the school to drop off donations.
  • These materials are often items that get thrown out or recycled and can become amazing learning tools.
  • They will not be returned and need to be clean, non-toxic and free of sharp edges. Unfortunately, due to Health Guidelines we are NOT able to accept egg cartons, styrofoam meat trays, tin cans and toilet paper rolls.

Here are some of the things that we would love to collect for our replenishment supplies:

Yarn – any colour (acrylic or cotton)

Old Fidget spinners

Old Sequin Pillow cases

Wooden toys – used

Halloween at Dr. Freda Miller School- Thursday October 31

  • Halloween will continue to be a day of learning at the school.
  • Students are welcome to wear their costume for the full day or even part of the day if they choose.
  •  The guidelines for costumes are:
  • No weapons
  • No masks
  • No blood or gore
  • We ask that any makeup be applied at home prior to coming to school

A reminder that we do not give or share food at school and ask that no classroom treats are sent to school. If children have treats in their lunches following Halloween, we ask that they are peanut-free and that they do not share them with peers.

The reason behind these guidelines is that we want school to continue to be a safe, caring and welcoming place.
