A Great Way to Make a Difference!

We are grateful for our School Council members and for the many ways they support students and staff. This is an amazing group of parents who want the best for their children. Meetings are upbeat in a spirit of support, wellness and forward thinking. The School Council and The School Enrichment Society meet and work together.

One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

Our Impact

  • Parents volunteer for the Terry Fox Run, Fun Lunches, School Dances, Sports Day and the Grade 5 Celebration. They also volunteer in classes as needed by teachers.
  • Parents volunteer all aspects of fundraising,: key contacts, media, pricing, ordering, sorting and distribution. They build a yearbook that does not make any profit.
  • Parents hand out trees at the Kindergarten Orientation and purchase trees for the Grade 5 Celebration, Additionally, they purchase snacks and a photo both.
  • Parents will be hosting a Community Learning Session in February with a guest who will be sharing about strategies for children with attention difficulties. They brought in a fabulous resource from Canada Parks during Conferences, who talked all about animal safety in the parks. Students love the animal hides, especially the bear!
  • Parents host a Staff Appreciation snacks and lunches, they help with the book fair and kindergarten orientation.
  • A group of about 15 parents meet each month. Numbers vary as parents can come to any or all meetings. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to ask questions of the administration team and to learn about the school programs, vision and school development plan. Parents provided feedback on school programming and initiatives, the School Development Plan and Fees
  • The school council has a strong Social Media Presence. To help take care of our environment, they have moved away from paper copies to digital formats for promoting their work and impact
