We are so pleased you are part of our Dr. Freda Miller School Family! What a great week reconnecting with everyone for the first couple of days of school.  For those of you who are new to Dr. Freda Miller School, you can expect a weekly school message to come out every Sunday night at 5PM with important information and updates for the week ahead.  This week’s updates are:

 Reminder- Labour Day

 Relaxed Entry

At Dr. Freda Miller School, we believe in supporting a relaxed entry for all students in the morning.

·         Parents are welcome to drop their students off anytime between 8:45 and 8:55, knowing that they can come in and be supervised.

  • At 8:45AM we will open the doors to the school and students are invited to come into the building and into their classroom using their grade doors.
  • For those that wish a little longer playtime, a final bell will ring at 8:55AM.
  • Students who arrive after the bell are required to come through the front doors and check in at the office so that we can record an accurate attendance.

Absence or Late Reporting

Please call the office at 403-817-3428 Ext. 1 or email drfredamiller@cbe.ab.ca, if your child is going to be absent or late. Please provide the students full name, teacher and the reason they are going to be absent or late.

 Parking

·         The staff parking lot is reserved for staff, CBE Maintenance and Handicap parking between 8:30 am-4:00 pm. This is not a drop-off or pick-up zone for students.

These parking rules are in place to promote visibility and safety for our school community.

·                     Peanuts, seafood, animal dander and some fragrances tend to be the most common allergies in our student population.

While we are not able to keep our school completely free of these allergens we strive to be sensitive to these conditions. All of our staff are updated on a yearly basis of these conditions and are aware of the emergency procedures required to deal with these types of allergic reactions.

Please notify theschool immediately if your child has a severe allergy. The school will need to have additional information. A Student Health Plan form must be completed.

Extra Clothing, Outdoor Clothing and Indoor Shoes

At Dr. Freda Miller School we place a high value on learning from and on the land, regularly engaging with the natural world from multiple perspectives.  Close proximity to Fish Creek Park affords us many opportunities to learn about the natural environment and engage in Indigenous land-based learning. For us this means we learn outside on the land at least once a week.

·         Please send extra clothing if your child needs a change of clothes. Some students need extra socks, underwear or sweatpants.

·         We ask that students have proper footwear for outdoor learning.

·         Please tuck into your child’s backpack and extra pair of socks.

·         We are outside unless the weather is -20 or colder. Students need a jacket, hat, mitts and weatherproof shoes.

·         Students are required to have indoor and outdoor shoes. Students are required to have a pair of indoor running shoes to participate in gym.

·         Indoor shoes are kept school.

·         A Gear GuideGear Guide is posted on our website showing clothing options for outdoor learning.

Our Sunday communications are available in the News Centre section of our website.
