Reminders
Friday dismissal is at 12:50 pm.
Please do not park in the busing zone. Parents are asked to drive past the parking lot entrance and park south of the school. During school hours, this zone is reserved for emergency vehicles should we ever need them.
The playground and park is not supervised afterschool by school staff. If students want to play, they need to be with an adult or they need to check in at home before returning. While SEEDS of S.P.I.C.E often use the area, they only are responsible for children registered in the program.
We will participating in the Terry Fox Run this year. Families are encouraged to donate directly to the Terry Fox Foundation at https://terryfox.org/

Parking
Please be courteous by not blocking our neighborhood driveways. Neighbors have called to let us know they are not able to get out of their own driveways as cars are left unattended. This is happening afterschool at pick up time.
Thank you for attending to the No Parking Rule in the parking lot between 8:30AM and 4:00PM. If you see a vehicle pull into the parking lot, it is staff arriving and/ or a family that requires handicap parking and displays a handicap placard.
We are a Nut Aware and Scent Aware School
We have students and staff with life threatening allergies to nuts. Please do not send products with nuts in them such as Nutella, Peanut or Nut butters.
Nutella contains nuts and could trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
See this link for videos from Food Allergy Canada to learn more.
We would also like to remind families that we are a “scent aware” school. Please do not use perfume or hair oils that have a strong scent. This helps to protect students and staff with scent allergies.
Please notify the school immediately if your child has a severe allergy. The school will need to have additional information. A Student Health Plan form must be completed every year for students with medical conditions including allergies. A Student Health Emergency Response Protocol form will also need to be completed for those students who require it.
School Council and SES (School Enrichment Society) - Upcoming Meetings
We are very grateful for parents who are able to attend our monthly meetings to help support our students. We meet once a month for 1.5 hours where we discuss programming and school events and as a group, we make recommendations and decisions to enhance school experiences.
- We share highlights from programming at the different grades starting with an overview in October of what Kindergarten is up to.
- We look at school wide events and make recommendations for expenditures
- We provide input to the administration team
- We learn about school and system priorities
- We come together to continue to build a strong school community
- We invite you to any or all of the meetings. You do not need to commit to all meetings.
We keep our meetings efficient, so you are headed home by 7:30PM
September 28 is our first School Council meeting and AGM. We will elect some new executive members for the upcoming year. This meeting is followed by the SES meeting, which is the fundraising arm that supports our students at Dr. Freda Miller School.
October 18 is our AGM for our School Enrichment Society Meeting. We will elect some new executive members for the upcoming year.
Committed to Truth and Reconciliation
September 30th marks Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. This year, September 29 is a non-operational day for employees and a non-instructional day for students.
We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a TRC Commitment to Action. On June 21, we renewed our commitment, which can be found at this link.
