Welcome 4th Year Teacher Candidates from Mount Royal University

We are excited to be welcoming 8 students from MRU (Mount Royal University) who will be doing their final practicum at Dr. Freda Miller School from January 8 until April 12, 2024. The students conference with the Mentor Teacher to discuss responsibilities, develop lesson plans for all lessons taught, participate in all professional activities with the Mentor Teacher and participate in weekly seminars with the faculty supervisor.

We have a strong commitment to developing teachers entering the profession. We work with students each year from Ambrose University in the fall, as well as first and fourth year students from Mount Royal University each year. Practicum students get a wide range of experiences, excellent guidance and mentoring and the opportunity to work with amazing staff, students and families here at Dr. Freda Miller School.

 Demographic Forms

We still have many families that have not yet completed the Demographic forms on the My CBE Parent account. These forms are mandatory and are required as part of our compliance with Alberta Education. Please go to your Parent Account and complete this form as soon as possible.

Weather Reminders for Families  CBE Schools Rarely Close Due to Snow or Cold Temperatures. All CBE schools will remain open to provide a safe, warm and secure environment for students. Even with adverse weather conditions, assume that schools are open unless you hear otherwise from your school. Information regarding any school closures due to weather will be posted on the CBE websites and social media, and shared with local news media.

A reminder to parents that the parking lot is not for drop off and pick up of students. Stalls are available for parents who have a parking placard for people with disabilities.

When the temperature dips below –20 degrees, students do not go outside for recess

Please dress for the weather- if the temperature changes during the day and it is warm enough for students to be outside, they go outside.

Yikes! No boots? - We have seen students arriving in running shoes. Please ensure your children come in outdoor footwear for winter.

 Reporting an Absence or Late

If your child is going to be absent or late, please call the attendance line at 403-817-3428 Ext. 1 or email drfredamiller@cbe.ab.ca Attendance follow up is done through our main office and therefore it is important to make sure you follow this process to ensure that the automated message does not go out to you.

School Council and SES Meeting this Week

The Grade 4 teachers will be presenting at this week’s meeting. Come learn about the great things happening in their classes! If you were not able to attend our meeting in December, minutes and slides from the Grade 3 Presentation are posted on the website.

School Council is doing a Volunteer Survey Click this link or watch for the half sheet flyer coming home with the QR code. We are hoping to match your availability and talents with needs in the school.

Report Cards

By the end of January, your child’s report card will be available to view in your MyCBE account. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning.

Teachers work to plan the delivery of curriculum content in ways that are engaging, creative and inspiring and will continue to respond to the needs of students. As always, if you have specific questions about your child’s learning please connect with their teacher.
