The CBE Dates of Significance Events Calendar
Dear Families,
We were very proud of the way students engaged in our first lockdown and fire drills.
A reminder to parents that if we are practicing an emergency drill, the office phone and front door intercom cannot be answered. If you arrive to pick up your child and we were having an emergency drill, we simply ask that you wait at the front door until after the drill has been completed.
School Open House Next Thursday from 6:00 – 7:00 pm
We welcome families to come and meet your teacher(s) and to visit your child’s classroom.
- We are a scent friendly school, so we ask that you do not wear perfumes/ cologne as they can trigger an allergic reaction.
- Yearbooks will be available for pick up outside the front entry doors
- Please check the lost and found - we are hoping to find homes for the 75 items we have already collected. Any items not claimed will go to charity on the weekend.
Brrrr! Bundle up for Outdoor Activities!
The CBE recognizes the value of outdoor breaks such as recess during the school day. Students should be should prepared and dressed for all weather conditions.
When temperatures reach -20 C or colder, including the wind-chill factor, it is recommended that students be kept inside for recess breaks. This guideline is comparable to other school jurisdictions in Alberta and across Canada. Note, this temperature is provided as a guideline and may be adjusted for the school/activity.
Weather reminders and the CBE Outdoor Activity Guidelines are posted on the CBE Website
Terry Fox Run - October 4 - Save the Date!
Meet us on the field behind the school on Friday, October 4th at 12:00 PM to run, walk or cheer each other on. We have set a school fundraising goal of $500 and are hoping families will donate by:
- Bringing cash to the office anytime next week. (No tax receipts will be given)
- Donating online https://schools.terryfox.ca/73077
- Joining us for the run and bringing cash or use the QR code to donate using your phone.
On September 13, 1981 the Fox Family organized the first Terry Fox Run. Over 300,000 people took part and raised $3.5 million dollars. Schools across Canada were urged to join the second run, held on September 19, 1982. The Terry Fox Run has grown to involve millions of participants in 60 countries.
Terry ran for us, we will run for Terry and all neighbors, friends and family affected by cancer.

The Dr. Freda Miller School Enrichment Society needs 42 people to help with their Casino. This Casino fundraiser is just around the corner! This important event is set to take place on October 25th and 26th at Deerfoot Inn and Casino and aims to raise up to $80 000 to support our school’s programs and initiatives.
To make this event a success, they are seeking volunteers to fill numerous positions over two days. Your support is crucial in helping them meet the required number of volunteers. Without parent support the Enrichment Society is at risk of losing future casino licenses. This is the main source of fundraising for new technology, residency programs at the school and other important initiatives that make Dr. Freda Miller School an amazing place to learn.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
- General Manager: Easiest job! Watch cashier payouts, fill positions for others who need a break.
- Banker: Controls cash and chip inventory and watches cashier payouts
- Cashier: Redeems player chips for cash
- Chip Runner: Delivers chips from Banker to the gaming table
- Count Room Staff : Sorts, counts and inputs money amounts into the cash counter and computer
No experience is required - all jobs are VERY easy and supported by our advisor. Volunteering at casinos is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet other parents at the school or to catch up with friends working a paired position. Volunteers also enjoy free food during their shift from the casino restaurant.
