The CBE Dates of Significance Events Calendar

Dear Families,

The rain came quickly last week leaving many students wearing soaking wet shoes outdoors. Please see that students have waterproof footwear as we are bound to have more inclement weather. Know that students go outside for recess and for learning rain or shine unless it is –20C or colder.

Who is Bear?

If you are new to our school when you visit our Open House on October 26, you will see that our school logo is “Bear”. There are beautiful etchings in the large glass windows in the den, bear footprints in the hallways and evidence of Bear tucked in around the school. Our Learning Commons is known as “The Den”, we have a room called “The Meadow” and learning spaces called “The Forest” and “The Sky Space”.

Bear serves as both model and teacher for the school, representing courage, strength, perseverance, and care for and protection of others. Our mission is to provide an environment for learning that encourages children to take risks, make mistakes, learn, and grow in safe spaces. It is our collective goal to improve student learning through the design of inclusive, engaging and culturally responsive learning tasks both in the classroom and out on the land.  Together – as educators, staff, community, families and students – we work to ensure that academic excellence, citizenship, belonging, and identity are at the core of all we do.

Not taking the bus home today?

For those parents whose children ride the bus:

  • If your child is at school in the morning but not riding home at the end of the day, please send an email to your child’s teacher as well as drfredamiller@cbe.ab.ca and Mrs. Ramsay (Assistant Principal) - julramsay@cbe.ab.ca
  • This will ensure that we get the email in case the teacher or Mrs. Ramsay is away
  • This also ensures attendance accuracy when we load the bus at the end of the day

Thank you for the donations

Sending a shout out to families that sent clothing for our Outdoor Clothing lending library, Kleenex and Band Aids. We would welcome any rain boots or rain gear as well!

Meet the Teacher - Open House

We are looking forward to meeting our families on Thursday, September 26 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. This open house format invites families to “drop in”, meet the teacher and see the classroom. Ms. Taylor, our fine arts teacher, will be circulating that evening. The Gym, Music Room and Den will not be accessible that evening.  Please use the front doors to enter and exit.

Lost and Found

We already have more than 50 jackets/hoodies in the lost and found. If you are missing an item, please pop by after school to look for items missing from your home! The lost and found is cleaned out at the end of the month - we donate items to charity unless we can use them in our clothing lending library. Please remember to label your child’s clothing as it helps us return items to them.

Terry Fox Run - October 4 - Save the Date!

We are having our school Terry Fox run on Friday October 4 (late morning).  Details to follow!

School Council and SES Meeting - Save the Date!
Please consider joining us for our first School Council and School Enrichment Society Meeting on September 19, 2024.  This is a meeting for parents and guardians only. We meet in the staff room in our Front Office.

Health Plans

If your child requires a Student Health Plan, please be sure to send it to us if you haven’t already. The Student Health Plan is supported by Administrative Regulation 6002 – Student Health Services. The Student Health Plan can be found here and must be:

  • completed if a physical or medical condition may affect the student’s attendance at school;
  • completed if medication is to be taken at school; and
  • reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student’s health concern or school registration.
