The CBE Dates of Significance Events Calendar

Dear Families,

I am incredibly grateful to have served Public Education and to have been the Principal at Dr. Freda Miller School! Thursday will be bittersweet, leaving a beautiful community and setting out on new adventures.

Every life experience is shaped by the people around you. Those who teach you, love you, bring you joy, have your back, encourage and inspire you and who help you consider new perspectives. That is who you all are! Thank you for being the kind of family you want to take through the rest of your life.

Wherever you go, I hope you take 'bear' with you- courage, strength, perseverance, and care for and protection of others.

With heartfelt thanks and appreciation, Ms. Gillott

Online Report Cards

  • Families can access online student report cards for Kindergarten to Grade 12 starting Monday, January 27, 2025. Report cards can be viewed, downloaded and/or printed.
  • Parents and Guardians can sign in to MyCBE  to view student information, including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher, grades, and attendance information. For best access to information, log in to the MyCBE  portal instead of using the PowerSchool App.
  • Need Help? Check out this video for more information on how to log in and navigate the portal when you have more than one child attending CBE schools.
  • Video Tutorial -  Kindergarten to Grade 9

Family Literacy Week - January 26, 2025 - Feb 2, 2025

  • Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27 to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.
  • Since 1999, schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups across the country have taken part in the initiative. ABC creates free learning and promotional resources for anyone that wants to get involved.
  • Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well. Check out the great links in the pdf attached to this weekly message.

Digital Decodable Library Link

This resource has been developed to provide access to digital versions of decodable reading materials for CBE teachers and families. These digital offerings support both our understanding of decodable books and provide opportunities for beginning readers to access these reading materials at home and school.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2025-2026 year

  • You may register your child for kindergarten for the 2025 – 2026 school year as long as your child turns five years old on or before December 31, 2025.
  • We run a half day program – either morning or afternoon.
  • One way busing is available to those students who are beyond the walk zone in Evergreen or reside in Walden.  It is available to parents at a cost. The CBE does not provide mid-day busing for Kindergarten students.
  • If you know your child will be attending in the fall, registering before March helps the school in planning for the upcoming year. The number of students we receive lets us know if we can run both a morning and afternoon program, or the potential of adding an additional class and teacher.
  • In the Spring, all Kindergarten students who are registered at Dr. Freda Miller School attend an intake meeting with their parents and invited to an open house in June.
  • You can see highlights of our program here!

Welcome Ms. Elan La Montagne

Ms. La Montagne will be at the school on Tuesday January 28 to meet students and staff to begin the transition planning as the Principal of Dr. Freda Miller School. Ms. La Montagne is excited to join our community next Monday, February 3 and brings a deep passion for fostering positive learning environments for students.  We have attached her letter of introduction to the Sunday message in case you missed it last week.
