The CBE Dates of Significance Events Calendar

Dear Families,

While Mrs. Kachra is away, Ms. Lori Paladeau will be here as the full-time Administrative Secretary. Next week, we will welcome Ms. Amina Harron to our front office staff, who will be working with Mrs. Merhi who has been supporting us since September, to ensure a smooth transition.  We want to thank Mrs. Merhi for her positive outlook, for multitasking when it got very busy in the office and for the caring way she worked with children and families.

Volunteering

  • Ms. Gillott will continue to process the Volunteer Security Checks until she leaves at the end of the month.  If you are planning on volunteering this year, please apply this month if you can. You can start the process in your MyCBE account by filling out the Annual Volunteer Form and uploading your identification.
  • Teachers may be reaching out to parents looking for volunteers in the classroom. If you have your security clearance and can help out, watch for opportunities in the Friday messages from teachers.

School Council and School Enrichment Society

  • Thank you to the School Council and School Enrichment Society for paying the full cost of the drumming residency! This will give all students a chance to drum, learn about the history of djembe drumming and see drumming in other cultures. Our grades K-2 students will also have their opportunity to work with Alien Inline skating in February as well thanks to our fabulous School Enrichment Society.

Kindergarten Registration starts tomorrow for the 2025-2026 year

  • You may register your child for kindergarten for the 2025 – 2026 school year as long as your child turns five years old on or before December 31, 2025.
  • We run a half day program – either morning or afternoon.
  • One way busing is available to those students who are beyond the walk zone in Evergreen and reside in Walden.  It is available to parents at a cost. The CBE does not provide mid-day busing to Kindergarten students.
  • If you know your child will be attending in the fall, registering before March helps the school in planning for the upcoming year. The number of students we receive lets us know if we can run both a morning and afternoon program, or the potential of adding an additional class and teacher.
  • In the Spring, all Kindergarten students who are registered at Dr. Freda Miller School attend an intake meeting with their parents and invited to an open house in June.
  • You can see highlights of our program here!

New Principal Selection in Progress

Thank you to the parents who completed the survey about an incoming principal for our Education Director, Mr. Kenny Yeung. He has come to know our school community well through his monthly visits, attending staff meetings and other professional development sessions. When the new principal is selected, an email will be sent to families to introduce themselves to the community.
