The CBE Dates of Significance Events Calendar

Dear Families,

We hope you have a safe and happy long weekend! A reminder that as the weather gets colder, students are still outside unless the temperature dips below –20.

Halloween at Dr. Freda Miller School

Many have been asking about the school expectations for Halloween Day on Monday October 31.

Halloween will continue to be a day of learning at the school.  Students are welcome to wear their costumes for the full day or even part of the day if they choose.  We encourage students to wear their costume over their regular clothes or bring a change of clothes in the event that they become uncomfortable or find that it interferes with their activities like gym or outdoor play.  The guidelines for costumes are:

  • No weapons
  • No masks
  • No blood or gore

A reminder that we do not give or share food at school and ask that no classroom treats are sent to school. If children have treats in their lunches following Halloween, we ask that they are peanut-free and that they do not share them with peers.

The reason behind these guidelines is that we want school to continue to be a safe, caring and welcoming place. Our learners from kindergarten to grade 5 share common spaces and are always interacting with one another.  We want to make sure that no one is scared or fearful in coming to school.  We thank all families for helping us continue to make our collective space a safe one.

Wildlife Sightings

Thank you to community members for letting us know when there is a coyote present. We let staff know and alert the city using the online tool through the City of Calgary.  Neighbors are asked to report online as well.

Traffic Service Requests

One of our parents who works with Emergency Management let us know that the best way for parents to make comments about traffic concerns is through an online service request at the Calgary Police Website.

From the CPS Website: To report any traffic-related violations other than parking, loud vehicles, transit, and issues that require immediate assistance, you can complete an online Traffic Service Request (TSR) . The most popular TSR concerns include:

  • Speeding
  • Crosswalk violations
  • Pedestrian violations
  • School and playground zone violations
  • Construction zone issues
  • Persistent traffic violation(s) that are noted by the public in a specific area that can be expected to reoccur when a responding officer attends to the complaint.

Complaints, where a specific violator or license number can be identified, should be referred to the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 for appropriate dispatch response.

What if people are constantly speeding in our community?
You can complete a TSR online or call the TSR line at 403-567-4029. A member of the Photo Radar Unit will return your call to discuss your concerns and determine if photo radar equipment will be deployed in your area
