It is the little things. It is not in the grandiose of events, but it in little moments, the nuances, the consistent care, the pause and presence, and gentle nudges that make the biggest difference. When I reflect on that statement in relation to the staff of Dr Freda Miller, this holds true in the multitude of ways in which they come to the work each and every day, giving all of themselves to ensure all students succeed. It is in the little ways they can shift someone's day, how they listen to the stories students bring, the 100 times with which they hear their name called out. The thousand things that are asked of them in a minute, an hour, a day. They are a counsellor, a cheerleader, a peace maker, a problem solver, a crafter, creator, a knowledge keeper, an entertainer, designer, timekeeper, master communicator, among all the regular teaching duties. It really is no small feat.
As we head into the week where our amazing School Council & Enrichment society celebrates our teachers, I personally want to share my gratitude for the exception work they do where all the little things truly make all the difference in our students experience at school.
Thank you to our parent, Amanda W. for curating and creating a most wonderful week of surprises for our teachers. I can't wait for the fun! And thank you to our School Council- Enrichment Society for supporting the week of surprises. It is these gestures, the kind words, supportive partnerships and the trust in the amazing work they do that truly make all the difference.
Volunteers
Please save the date of Friday, June 5th at 11:30 for our Volunteer Tea. We are so appreciative of the many ways our parents support our students, staff and school. From coming out to move Mud Kitchen items, to supporting students on a field study, working the casino, to handing out Fun Lunch, we are immensely grateful for all you do and can't wait to celebrate you!
Plant Pick - Up & Volunteers needed
The Growing Smiles plant pick-up will be on Thursday from 3 pm to 5:30 pm at the school. If you are able to volunteer to support, please sign-up through Sign-Up Genius:
Bikes and Scooters
We love to see so many students travelling to school by bike, scooter, and rollerblades. Please remind your child that they should get off their wheels to cross the road and when on the sidewalks on school property. It's a busy place and we want everyone to feel safe.
School Council & Enrichment Society Meeting - Thursday at 6:30 pm
We invite all parents to come and join in the conversation around all the wonderful ways the school is supported by School Council and the Enrichment Society. The meeting on Thursday will start at 6:30 (a little later than usual) and we it usually is just over an hour.
Staffing Update
As mentioned previously, our amazing Amina Haroon, the secretary in the mornings, is off to a full-time position at Lakeshore Middle School. She will be dearly missed, and we truly hope to work with her again one day.
Please join me in welcoming Peggy Leung to our front office starting Monday until the end of the school year. I have had the pleasure to work previously with Peggy, and I'm delighted to work with her again.
In other exciting news, Ms. Granger is expecting her first baby this summer. We are so happy for Ms. Granger and are hopeful she will be with us until the end of the school year.
Ms. Jensen will also be transitioning to a new role in the fall with the Foothill School division. While we are so very sad to see her go, she is taking on an exciting new position within the Explore Program in Okotoks (similar to CBE's alternative Science Program) and will no doubt have so much knowledge and expertise to share and offer with her new staff.
We are also excited for Ms. McGregor as she will be transitioning to retirement at the end of June. While we are so very sad to see her go, we have no doubt she will enjoy the next chapter in her life.
