A Spotlight on Drumming

What a great week for students learning the basics of djembe drumming. (pronounced “jem-bay”) All students had two classes with our guest teacher Ms. Glenda MacLeod.  Ms. MacLeod shared her love for drumming, and the roots and rhythms of the djembe drums. Here is a link to a beautiful video Ms MacLeod used with students last week showing the importance of drumming, rhythm and movement in a West African Community. The video also shows how a djembe drum is made.

Outdoor gear and black plastic planting pots needed!

  • If you are cleaning out closets and have used winter/rain boots or winter/rain jackets in good condition, we would love to have you donate them to us here at the school. This will help us create an Outdoor gear lending library.
  • We worked with staff from Friends of Fish Creek on our Professional Learning Day to develop learning opportunities for students to identify and care for native plant species.  If you have black plastic nursery pots that you have used and no longer need, we are collecting them at school to donate to the Friends of Fish Creek Nursery for their Native Plant Species Program.

Reminder | Air Quality Measures

As we enter wildfire season, we know air quality can quickly change as smoke blows in and out of the city. Air quality is currently suitable for schools to maintain all regularly programmed activities. Should the situation change, school administrators will be notified to prepare for the need to implement restrictions as required.

As a reminder, when the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)   attains 7 or above, schools may be asked to alter exposure.

We hope you are enjoying the long weekend.
