Dr. Freda Miller Update - January 18th, 2025
| ||||||||||||||||||||
Dear families of Dr. Freda Miller School, And here we are in the middle of January already! We are heading into a few busy weeks at Dr. Freda Miller with a definite mixed bag of weather coming our way. I was recently reminded by a colleague of a resource for both educators and parents, supporting safe practices with online activity and social media for children. If interested in learning more, please see Common Sense media: Parents' Ultimate Guides | Common Sense Media Tomorrow, we start a two-week residency with SoundKreation, a dance residency. The Residency would not be possible without our amazing Dr. Freda Miller Enrichment Society, funding the entire residency through the casino dollars raised previously. Please save the dates of April 1 and 2 to volunteer for our next casino. We will be sending out details soon.
Council & Enrichment Society Meeting Our next meeting is Thursday at 6 pm. All parents are welcome to attend and we encourage parents to come and be part of the conversation of what is happening at school and planning for future possible events. The meeting is held at school in our school library and typically runs for about an hour. Minutes from our last meeting: November 2025 Enrichment Society AGM minutes
Term One Report Cards Just a friendly reminder that the Calgary Board of Education shifted the reporting dates due to the strike. The first report card will be available for viewing on February 24th, 2026 through your MyCBE account.
Open Minds & Volunteering This week, our Ms. McLaughlin’s grade 5 class is going to Open Minds to the Hub for Inspired Learning at Werklund Centre, formally the Arts Commons. They will be off site every day for their learning. The week after, Ms. Barr’s grade 5 class will be attending the same program. While there is still a cost per student for this program, it is highly subsidized by Chevron. To learn more about Chevron – Open Minds – Campus Calgary, please watch this video: Chevron Open Minds - Campus Calgary To volunteer, you do need a police clearance. Right now, the process has been taking just under two weeks to complete. To start the process, please log into your MyCBE account and find the volunteer clearance tab. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email the office or simply respond to this email.
Healthy Hunger A friendly reminder families can order your child’s Healthy Hunger lunch for the remainder of the year. Please note the lunches are for students in Grade One to Five.
