Thank you Volunteers and Families for your support of the Family Dance

We are sending out a big shout out to everyone who made the School Council and School Enrichment Society Family Dance such a success. We loved that over 400 people joined the spirit of community. What a great time all the families had and proof that unseasonalble weather never dampens our fun!

Thank You and Good Luck to Ms. Beswick

We wanted to send a special thank you to Ms. Beswick who started with us when the school opened. Her work in the office and with the students has been such a help. Ms. Beswick is leaving so she can spend more time with family, and while we are sad to see her go, we know great things are ahead for her!

Starting May 13, we welcome Ms. Robin Hirst in Ms. Beswick’s role. Ms. Hirst is known to us as she has worked many times at Dr. Freda Miller School.

A Pond Update from the City of Calgary

The City of Calgary is starting to wind down their overwinter program at the storm pond.  They will be extracting the water one more time – this should be done within the next week or so. This is all weather dependent – a sudden and unexpected rainfall would impact the plan.  Once it is drained, the pumps and fences will be removed, and it will be allowed to refill with rainfall.

Outdoor Learning

This week teachers looked at risks and benefits of outdoor learning and the research supporting how nature can improve wellbeing and academic success.

“The future will belong to the nature-smart-those individuals, families, businesses, and political leaders who develop a deeper understanding of the transformative power of the natural world and who balance the virtual with the real. The more high-tech we become, the more nature we need..”  ~ Richard Louv

On the website this week with the Weekly Update, we are featuring art from a grade 2 student following their study of the red-winged blackbird.
